Tungsten Carbide Wedding Bands - Facts to Know When Buying

When buying Tungsten Carbide jewelry you have to remember to ask the jeweller about the binding material they use. The two binders that are being used in the market today is Cobalt and Nickel. Cobalt are cheaper to use BUT it causes adverse reaction on the wearer's skin causing rashes. You should always opt for Tungsten Carbide jewelries that uses Nickel as a binder. It is chemically inert and  will not oxidise to cause rashes or skin irritation.

Make sure that you are buying Tungsten Carbide and NOT just Tungsten. Tungsten alone will scratch. It is vulnerable to damage just like any other metals. However, in combination with Carbon alloy this vulnerable metal acquires extreme hardness giving an 8.5 to 9.5 reading on the Mohs scale; this is now Tungsten Carbide.

Tungsten Carbide Rings cannot be re-sized that is why you need to make sure that you can exchange the ring if the size is wrong. It would be better if they also have a Lifetime Replacement Program in cases that your ring size changes in the future.

Also note that though Tungsten Carbide is a very hard metal it's hardness can also be it's weakness. This is so, because unlike any other metal that can be flexible and just dents to take the blow. Tungsten Carbide resist it; which means the right pressure can actually break it. If you accidentally drop it from a high point onto a concrete floor these rings can actually break. These is when Lifetime Replacement becomes really helpful. But you should not worry so much as this rarely happens to our rings as we have done some test on our rings dropping them on concrete floors and have not actually been successful breaking our test samples. Apparently, there might be some other contributory factors why this happens.

Last but not the least; you have to make sure that the Tungsten Carbide used has no magnet. That is because Tungsten Carbide that has magnet uses recycled products while the ones without magnet are the pure grade and high quality ones. The difference between the two is that Tungsten with magnet will after a period of time acquires dark spots or tarnish that will not be removed while Tungsten Carbide without magnet will continue to shine for life.
